A Different Way Of Wine Trading
Wine Brand Solutions for the Retail Trade

David Farmer Wholesale is quite different to all other wineries and wholesalers.

We offer to the retail trade a wide range of wines that are uniquely packaged for retail groups and even single retailers. This solves one of the major difficulties of retailers which is how to offer a range of exclusive products that are of the highest quality yet give the customer unequalled value. We believe every wine we supply can sell for double or more than double the landed unit cost.
We Welcome Our Export Manager - Linda Peek

We welcome Linda Peek to the wholesale team. Linda will lead the drive to export our wines and will manage all aspects of this part of the business.

Initially Linda will concentrate on a portfolio of Barossa reds but with time this will expand to other warm climate South Australian regions and will include wines from the Clare Valley, McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek. Whites from the Eden Valley and Adelaide Hills will follow at a later date.

Linda has a rich and varied interest in importing and exporting and has valuable contacts in Chile, France, UK, and the Nordic countries. Currently she exports frozen fruit from Chile to Australia and cheese from Australia. These businesses will continue. Her knowledge of wine is very extensive and for many years in the 1990's she imported bottled and bulk wines from Chile to Australia.

All enquiries about exports should be directed to Linda Peek.
The Team at David Farmer Wholesale

Jennifer Graham, Ben Parker, Wendy Johnson, David Farmer

David Farmer and Ben Parker started this business, dealing in wine in 2004. Earlier the decision had been made that to succeed it would need to operate out of a wine region. We like dealing in warm climate reds and the move to the Barossa Valley was made in 2004. Jennifer and Wendy joined in the last half of 2006 when we launched the wholesale business.

David commenced in the wine trade in 1975 and as been involved with retailing ever since. Ben has been involved in the liquor trade for 20 years, mostly in retail and also has wide experience in direct marketing. Jennifer for the last 20 years has concentrated on the wholesale side of the fine wine business while Wendy has spent her working life in print and design houses that specialise in wine label design and production.
Who Do We Supply?

We work exclusively and very closely with a small number of independent retailers. We also supple several larger groups with an exclusive portfolio of brands. We have no intention of supplying more than a restricted number of fine wine retailers. We do not supply restaurants. Focussing on a small number of accounts keeps our overheads low and allows us to sell high to ultra high quality wines at quite low prices.
The Source of Our Wines

We make wine, we buy wine in bulk and in barrel, we blend wine and we buy bottled wine, unlabelled and labelled. We act as old fashioned European ‘negociants’ with the twist that we do not sell under our name and do refer back to the source of the wine. These wines we then mature, bottle, label and offer to the retail trade. We are not a wine company in the conventional sense that is associated with a select range of wines, mostly quite restricted, from a particular district or vineyard and all with the same brand. Nor are we wholesalers who act for many wineries and present their product range to the trade. All the products offered are exclusive to us and apart from bottled wines are packaged by us.

We specialise in the wines of South Australia and mostly deal in warm climate reds from regions such as the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Langhorne Creek and the Clare Valley. We trade on a much smaller scale in cool climate whites which are sourced from the Clare Valley, Eden Valley and Adelaide Hills.

All of our wines are single district blends, many of them are also single vineyard wines. With all our parcels of wine we known the vineyard origin, the grower and the winemaker. We generally deal in the premium end but fulfil customer requirements for Riverland wines on request.
Developing the Brands

Our wines when they are ready for release are offered directly to the retail trade. These wines are sold under a wide variety of labels. All the brands are developed by us, all of them well researched and appropriate for the district of origin of the wine. The design of the label is done by Wendy Johnson.

In most cases we develop the label from pioneering families or explorers, historic events, places of interest or important geographical features that are important to the region from which we source the wines. At times we resurrect a previously existing winery, vineyard or noted vigneron.
